Hardcore band Hatebreed headlined the 2009 Decimation of the Nation(s) Tour, which stopped in Vancouver on Dec 2nd. On tour with them, were Cannibal Corpse, Unearth (who I shot once before), Born of Osiris, and first opening band Hate Eternal, who I didn’t shoot at all.
Born of Osiris was pretty good, they had a great stage presence, so I jumped in the pit for the first three songs

The crowd was really getting into them too

The lead singer reminded me of simple plan a little, in the way he moved around the stage, but the music was no where close..

A little wider, would have been perfect, but I still love the shot

Up next, was Unearth.. The guitarist gets a LOT of air, so I was shooting him more than the singer at points, but I couldn’t seem to catch the jump.. the lights would go off every time.

Had some pretty good light for them.

Even though I didn’t get him in the air, he didn’t disappoint!

A few shots of the crowd to end it off.. I had a limited AAA pass, so I could shoot all I want, I just needed a VIP to escort me backstage.. I decided to just head over to the side and shoot..

Up next, Cannibal Corpse, who I havent shot, but heard good things about. They played great, but didn’t move around too much, so the photos are kinda static

Not really static.. I suppose.. Compared to some bands like slayer who dont move at all..

I looove catching drummers, even better when the lights are nice, and they’re looking straight into the camera

Half spit, half dust.. ; )

Finally, the band I was looking forward to most, after shooting an interview with singer Jamey Jasta earlier in the day.

Jamey taking flight. He was full of energy, and I was glad a fellow photographer/friend in the pit lent me his 14-24/2.8 for the three Hatebreed songs. I love that lens now, and the only thing wrong with it, is the zoom ring being quite slow.

Great lighting, works great in colour, but I like it in B/W.. I have a thing for stage lights that way..

Bonus points for a wireless mic, but it covered his face for a lot of the shots I got. I still love the backlighting and crispness of the light.

The punch works really well here, the vibrant colours, and the light make this my favorite shot of the night. and the one I am going to end with.
